Thirty-eight batches in, and Barrell Craft Spirits still finds new ways to surprise. Since 2013, BCS has built its reputation as the original independent blender of unique aged, cask strength whiskey, and Batch 038 is among their most ambitious expressions to date. Released to mark the United States' 250th anniversary, the bottle features a special red, white, and blue label worthy of what is inside.

Batch 038 is a blend of straight bourbon whiskeys distilled across four states: Kentucky (12-year), Tennessee (12 and 15-year), Indiana (9 and 10-year), and Maryland (8-year), bottled at cask strength with a derived mash bill of 79% corn, 17% rye, and 4% malted barley. The result is a bourbon that is dark, layered, and entirely its own, with a character that rewards patience and reveals itself slowly in the glass.

Tasting Notes
Nose: Brown sugar, dried cherries, new leather, and pipe tobacco open the glass, with a deep, earthy undercurrent reminiscent of fallen river leaves. Cinnamon and brown sugar emerge on the retro-nasal.
Palate: Dense and bold with an intense front of gingerbread and dark chocolate, softening into worn leather, honey, hazelnuts, nutmeg, and earthy mushroom. The back palate delivers clove, bold gingerbread, and heavily charred oak. Dark, brooding, and complex with fine tannins that build and linger.
Finish: Long and warming with cinnamon, ginger, smoked oak, and a curious amburana-like spice that lingers well past the last sip.
